29th Sunday in Ordinary Time

There are a lot of things about money that we’ve “heard it said,” whether in society around us or even here in church. One of the more common ones is that saying taken right from Jesus' own lips, to “give to Caesar” – supposedly an admonition for followers of Jesus to be good citizens, upholding civic responsibility and supportive through paying taxes. But might this not be as easy as it first seems? After all, Jesus' full statement was to “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's”… and just what is there in this world that isn’t, ultimately, God’s? What does it mean to "render to Caesar" in our modern context, and how does this relate to our stewardship of resources, finances, and civic duties… perhaps in not as simplistic of a way as past generations have assumed? While Rev. Matt is away this weekend, the Rev. Michael Hare leads us in worship.
