“When Remembrance Meets Hope”
A Service of the Word for the 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time
November 8, 2026: IN-PERSON and ONLINE at 10:30 a.m.
Associate Pastor, Youngsun, preaching Matthew 25:1-13 and 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18.
This Sunday, as we observe Remembrance Sunday, we gather to remember those who have served and sacrificed in times of war, and to pray for God's peace in our world today. We also hear Paul's words to the church in Thessalonica, a community wrestling with grief and uncertainty in the face of loss. Rather than dismissing their sorrow, Paul speaks into it with a promise rooted in the resurrection of Christ. Christian hope does not ask us to forget those we mourn, nor does it pretend that grief is easy. Instead, it meets us in our remembering and points us toward God's future.
As we hear 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18, we are invited to reflect on the place where remembrance and hope come together. We honour the past, cherish the memories of those we have lost, and trust in the promise that God's love is stronger than death.
