Matthew 18:21-35 and Exodus14:15-31

This Sunday we continue our journey through Exodus and arrive at one of the most dramatic moments in Israel’s story. Trapped between the sea before them and Pharaoh’s army behind them, the people stand at the edge of what seems impossible. But God is not simply making a way of escape. Through the waters, God is creating something new.

The crossing of the sea marks more than the end of slavery; it is the beginning of a new community. The people who enter the waters as a collection of former slaves emerge as a people being shaped by God’s freedom and purpose. In this story, we glimpse a God who brings life out of chaos and new creation out of fear.

As we hear Exodus 14:15-31, we are invited to consider how God continues to lead people through uncertain waters and into new ways of belonging together.
