Luke 24:13-35

Our scriptures give us a number of stories of appearances of the resurrected Jesus following that first Easter morning when the women who went to his tomb heard the news that he had been raised. This week, as the Great Fifty Days of Easter continue, we’ll walk along side two of Jesus' second- or third-string followers as they travel away from Jerusalem later on the first Easter day, confused and bewildered about all that had happened and still unsure about this news of resurrection. Through hearing the witness of scripture pointing toward Christ, their hearts begin to burn within them and, finally, as bread is taken, blessed, broken, and shared, their eyes open to see Jesus in their midst. Where does Jesus meet us along the way, opening our eyes in the midst of the shadows of confusion and challenged hopes?
