Our series on the seven last “words” (that is, messages or sayings) Jesus spoke from the cross while he was crucified continues this week. When Jesus said, ‘I am thirsty,’ he revealed not only physical need but his full solidarity with human suffering. Through that thirst, he draws us into the life-giving grace of God and binds us together as a new community shaped by his love.
