“Cross Talk: Foolishness”
A Service of Word and Feast for the 4th Sunday in Ordinary Time
February 1, 2025: IN-PERSON and ONLINE at 10:30 a.m.
The Rev. Matthew Emery, lead minister, preaching
1st Corinthians 1:18-31
This Sunday, we make our first of two visits into parts of the 1st letter by the apostle Paul to the early Christian community in the city of Corinth, a letter in which we’re challenged to face the seeming “foolishness” of God’s ways in contrast to the things we tend to value in this world. We’ll gather around Christ’s feast table of Holy Communion, and then again for a wonderful luncheon feast while we conduct the annual business meeting of our congregation. Also this week, we’ll have a chance to dedicate our pledges of financial stewardship in support of God’s mission in this place, as well as say a formal “farewell” to Emma Shi, our former director of music ministries, who chose not to return following her 2025 maternity leave. All in all, a Sunday not to miss!
