“Traps and Treasures”
A Service of the Word for the 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time and Remembrance Sunday
November 9, 2025: IN-PERSON and ONLINE at 10:30 a.m.
The Rev. Matthew Emery, lead minister, preaching
Luke 20:27-38
On this Sunday preceding the annual Remembrance Day observances in our country, our worship service will include our own Act of Remembrance for those whose lives have been taken by the horrors of war, along with earnest prayers for peace… always praying that the lists of those we lift up on Remembrance Day might, by the grace and providence of God, grow no longer.
As we turn to the witness of the Word, we meet up with Jesus in the final week before his crucifixion teaching in the temple, where various groups of religious leaders make attempts to trap him in his own words. The true treasures of God’s kingdom, however, cannot be confined to the same-ol', same-ol' assumptions we, in our finitude and brokenness, cling to in this world.
