Jeremiah 4:11-12, 22-28

This Sunday, our journey with the prophet Jeremiah continues.  The witness of this ancient voice, who ministered around the time the Israelite nation was taken into exile in Babylon, proves surprisingly relevant in our own era -- an era when, like Jeremiah's, talking heads "say 'Peace, peace,' when there is no peace"; an era when so many of us feel like we are in exile from all that seemed stable, familiar, and secure.

In this week's selection, God speaks in judgment against the people, in light of their lack of faithfulness and their practices of injustice.  As people who believe that God cares about justice, what role does God's judgment play in our understandings?  When we have gone astray from the relationship God desires with us and from the patterns of life that God, in great love, lays out for us, how do we handle it when God calls us to account?
