What we hear from Jesus in our scripture this weekend challenges some typical, too-easy assumptions around what following Jesus is all about. And yet, his challenging words speak with honesty, and they help us make sense of the real tensions we face when we try to live lives of faithfulness. The road to which we are called is not an easy one... but it is the road upon which we discover ourselves walking along with Jesus, giver of the life that is truly life.
