Acts 9:1-6, (7-20)
The “Great 50 Days” of Easter continue as we gather for worship this week, the 3rd Sunday of Easter. Through the Season of Easter this year, we’ll be hearing from scriptures that point us toward the question of “what happens next?”—as in, what comes after Easter. We’ll hear from the book of Acts, which chronicles what happened among the very first generation of disciples and Christ-followers in the first couple of decades after Jesus' resurrection, and from the book of Revelation, the book we find at the end of our Bible that speaks in an imaginative and visionary to what God has in store for the culmination of all creation.
This week, a scene from Acts takes centre stage: the encounter that a man named Saul has with the risen Christ. From a persecutor of early Christians to the early Church’s most well-known evangelist and church-planter, the man who became known as Paul met a presence and power that drew him in and changed the course of his life forever.
Ross Shearer, who many of us know as our Children’s Ministry leader, has recently begun studies through the Centre for Christian Studies in Winnipeg to pursue Diaconal Ministry in The United Church of Canada, and will be delivering this Sunday’s sermon as a part of worship-and-education-focused field placement work with which he’s engaged over the next 8 to 9 months.
