Matthew 13:1-9
15th Sunday in Ordinary Time

This Sunday, we’ll be moving back into the Gospel of Matthew, as Jesus tells his disciples one of his most iconic parables, the “parable of the sower”. Are we the soil, into which the seed of God’s word is being planted? And if so, what kind of “soil” are we? Are we the sower, called to be ones spreading seeds of hope into the world? Are we the seeds themselves, the little morsels of life with which God is blessing others? Is the sower foolish and wasteful, losing precious and costly seed? Or is the sower filled with a passion so extravagant that she can’t imagine missing out on opportunity to cultivate the tiniest bit of good soil, even if that means a few seeds spilled along the way? The story is overflowing with possibility and promise, much like life with God!
