Nehemiah 8:1-3, 5-6, 8-10 and Luke 4:14-21
The 3rd Sunday after Epiphany

Returning to the Gospel of Luke this week, Jesus' ministry continues to get off the ground as he appears at his hometown synagogue and has the opportunity to preach what might be considered his "inaugural" sermon. His "point" is clear: what the prophet Isaiah foretold long ago, about God's Spirit anointing someone to proclaim good news and liberation to the oppressed, has come true in him. Our encounter with Christ, therefore, launches us into the world to work together for a kingdom of justice, peace, righteousness, compassion, caring, and sharing, all as Christ-like agents of transfiguration, transformation, and radical change.
