Zephaniah 3:14-20 and Luke 3:7-18
Third Sunday of Advent

This week, our journey of preparing for the Lord's coming continues as we again find ourselves in the presence of that 'voice crying out in the wilderness', John the Baptist.  This week, we get to the real heart of John's message, wherein we are called to truly turn and change in our hearts and in our lives, to prepare ourselves and others for the kingdom of heaven to appear among us.  John's sometimes startling words are a wake-up call and a reminder that even our own preparation is but a foretaste of the purification that God has in store for us and our world. The coming of one "more powerful" than John, even with a winnowing fork in hand, is good news and cause for exultation for us who are being saved.
