“A Stringent Carry-On Policy”

Isaiah 66:10-14 and Luke 10:1-11, 16-20
In this week's scripture, we continue with Jesus and his disciples as they begin making their way to Jerusalem. By “his disciples,” though, we don’t only mean the 12 we often think of, but a whole crowd of people who sense something powerful in what they see and hear from Jesus, and therefore want to follow. From among them, Jesus commissions 70 folk to go into the towns and villages on their way. They aren’t to carry with them very much at all… but what they do bring to the places they visit is the news that can change lives and even the world.
