26th Sunday in Ordinary Time

An Intercultural Hymn Festival

This Sunday, a portion of our congregation (including Rev. Matt) is away together at Camp Fircom on Gambier Island for our 2024 “all church” retreat weekend sponsored by our congregation’s intercultural ministry team. As connections across and among cultures are strengthened there, we who are in worship together this weekend at the CUC building or via the livestream will likewise celebrate the church’s intercultural identity—not only the ever-more-intercultural make-up of our particular congregation, but the inherently intercultural nature of Christ’s church as a whole.

We celebrate that interculturality that in a particular way with this week’s worship service, an intercultural “hymn festival.” Music can transform us… if we allow it to. What we sing and how we sing can transform us, not only physically but spiritually… if we allow it to. A church that speaks many languages, dances to many rhythms, and sings from the heart the songs of others prepares itself to become ever-more-faithful disciples of Christ within God’s church, which is intercultural by design.
