Worship at Cloverdale United Church: Every Sunday morning at 10:30 am
Worship at Hazelmere United Church: Every Sunday morning at 8:45 am
If you do decide to stop by for a Sunday morning visit, we want you to know that we will never put you on the spot or single you out.
And as our guest we hope you will:
- enjoy the music and after a few visits be comfortable enough to sing along
- dress however you feel comfortable (jeans, or more dressy – it doesn’t matter to us)
- stay around after the service for a coffee, tea or juice and give us the chance to meet you
You will be greeted at the door and handed a Bulletin. Like a theatre program, this tells you what will happen during the service and about other events at the church throughout the week.
Children may stay with their parent(s) for the first part of the service and then go to another room with a volunteer teacher for Church School time. From time to time, the children stay in the sanctuary for an intergenerational service.
For new parents, if you want to cradle your baby or toddler throughout the service, people understand that crying and squirming are part of their small lives and are quite acceptable during the service. You can opt to listen to the service in the Quiet Room if your young one needs more room to move about.
The minister will give a sermon, which is a reflection or commentary on the scripture readings, current events, or life in general. There are several times for prayer during the service. Some of these will be given by the minister, and others by a member of the congregation. People stay seated to pray rather than kneel.
Communion is served numerous times a year, but not every Sunday. Participation is open to all people attending the service, but is not mandatory. An offering of money is collected to support the work of the church. There is no set amount; people give as they are able. This supports the local congregation (maintaining the building, providing programs, paying the minister), and also the work of the church around the world through the national Mission and Service Fund.
Our services are approximately one hour long and we hope you will join us for resfreshments afterwards so we can get to know you better.
